GERRISH TOWNSHIP — Township officials have spelled out the specifics regarding a February lottery to distribute marina slips at two locations in Gerrish Township. The slips are available to anyone interested in permanent summer dockage at Higgins Lake next year.

The lottery was announced at the Nov. 10 meeting of the Gerrish Township Board. The two locations will be at the Gerrish Township Community Park, formerly the Higgins Lake Boat Yard, and at the Gerrish Township Park.

Interested parties can download a lottery form from the township’s Web site, www.gerrishtownship.org, or pick up a form from the Gerrish Township offices beginning Dec. 1. There is a $25 non-refundable deposit, and lottery forms must be returned to the township offices by Feb. 3, 2009.

Those people filling out the forms must indicate which lake access area they would prefer, and rank them accordingly on the form. The drawing will take place at a special meeting in February at the township offices. Those selected for the marina slips must pay their summer dockage fee by April 1, 2009, or else lose their spot.

The boat slip cost for Gerrish Township property owners is $1,300, while the cost for non-township property owners is $1,500. Boat hoists are to be supplied by the boat owner.
